SAFETY-Psalm 91

Psalm 91:1-2 - Bible verse - DailyVerses.net

Does God and the Bible promise and guarantee safety and security for His people?

Under His Wings: Whoever dwells [makes his home] in the shelter [covering, secret place] of the Most High [ʿelyôn] will rest [abide] in the shadow of the Almighty [Shaddai]. 2 I will say of the Lord [Yahweh], ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God [Elohim], in whom I trust.’” “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart” (Ps 91:1-2, 4).

SAFETY. Protection. Psalm 91 is a psalm for times of trouble, danger and uncertainty. To dwell/abide in the shadow/shelter of the Almighty (Ps 91:1) means to trust God from everything that can harm and destroy you, and to spend time with God in the midst of the evil around us, whether you live or die (Dan 3:17-18). Psalm 91 is a powerful affirmation of God’s protection for those who trust in Him. Yet, while it promises divine protection, it doesn’t guarantee a life free from all hardship, but assures believers of God’s presence and ultimate deliverance through life’s challenges. It is thus a powerful and comforting psalm that focuses on God’s protection and care for those who trust Him. It emphasizes God’s comprehensive protection and care, covering various aspects of life and potential dangers. It serves as a source of comfort and assurance for believers facing difficulties or fears.
  1. The believer speaks to God (Psalm 1-2). “He is my refuge(Psalm 91:2).
  2. The psalmist speaks to believers (Ps 91:3-13). “Surely he will save you” (Psalm 91:3).
  3. God speaks to all (14-16). I will rescue him” (Psalm 91:14).
It is connected to adjacent psalms: “dwelling place” (Ps 90:1; 91:9), “Most High” (Ps 91:1; 92:1). It has an unusual distinction as the only passage of Scripture that is quoted by the devil in the N.T. (Mt 4:6; Lk 4:10-11)! Of course the devil misquoted it and misapplied it (Ps 91:11-12).
